New research centre to create world-class logistic flows

KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Scania have begun collaboration on the Integrated Transport Research Lab - a new research centre at KTH that will focus on future transport systems. "The aim is to create world-class logistics flows," said Martin Lundstedt,
President & CEO, Scania.

The transport sector faces major challenges over the coming years. Growing cities and increasing transport requirements need to be addressed, at the same time as the industry needs to meet ambitious environmental goals set by politicians.

For this reason, Scania and KTH are now establishing a joint research centre, the Integrated Transport Research Lab (iTRL). The lab will contribute technology- and systems-based solutions that allow for significant and concrete reductions in transport-sector carbon emissions to levels below the EU's targets.

Self-driving buses for use in the public transport system, electric roads, new passenger-car concepts, night-time goods transport, and better tools for avoiding congestion and traffic jams in rush hour are just a few examples of the concepts that will be further developed within the iTRL framework.

Through the iTRL, Scania and KTH are also aiming to create a bridge between academic research and the needs of society and the transport industry’s business models and development processes.
