The largest truck plant has now embarked on series production of the new generation of the extreme all-terrain Unimog. The first unit, a U 5023 4x4 painted in arctic white, rolled-off the production line. Fresh off the production line, the newest member of the Unimog
family was presented as part of a 'journey through the generations', which gave a brief review of 63 years of Unimog history while providing an insight into the fascination and uniqueness of the extreme all-terrain Unimog.
Following on the heels of the new Unimog implement carrier and the new Econic, this is the third successful production launch by Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks within the space of a year - and it also brings to an end the Euro-VI offensive of special-purpose vehicles in Worth.
"The new extreme all-terrain Unimogs set a new benchmark in the off-road sector. They impress with their ability to handle every terrain and master every challenge - be it in forest fire-fighting, flood areas or open-cast mining. The Unimog is an all-rounder, and we've been able to further improve its qualities despite the major challenges posed by Euro-VI. That's a really fantastic achievement," said Yaris Pursun, Head of Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks.
The new generation of the extreme all-terrain Unimog combines high efficiency, cutting-edge technology and outstanding system expertise to deliver a successful overall concept that impresses with its power and performance. At the same time, the new vehicles are environment-friendly and just as rugged as their predecessors. In addition, the proven design benefits of the Unimog have been further improved in many details with the introduction of the new Euro-VI engines.
Be it in forest fire-fighting, the energy sector, pipeline construction, disaster control, crane operations or expeditions, be it in rescuing people or in recovering machinery or, last but not least, in transporting passengers - wherever roads become poor and merge into open terrain, that is where the two new extreme all-terrain Unimog models come into their own. The main difference between the two variants is in the axle loads and in the permissible gross vehicle weight, which is max. 10.3-tonnes for the U 4023 and up to 14.5-tonnes for the U 5023.
