Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivers 3.84-million vehicles worldwide in period to August, +3.1 per cent

The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand delivered 3.84-million (January-August 2012: 3.72; +3.1 per cent) vehicles worldwide from January to August. The brand handed over 461,600 vehicles (August 2012: 466,300; -1 per cent) to customers in the month of August.

"The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand is not immune to the effects of the ongoing very challenging situation on world markets. However, the tailwind from China, our largest single market, continues," said Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars.

In European market Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand delivered 1.08-million (1.15; -6.7 per cent) vehicles in the period to August, of which 535,000 units (574,500; -6.8 per cent) were handed over in Western Europe (excluding Germany). August deliveries in the home market of Germany were significantly affected by the bad weather in Wolfsburg which caused hailstorm damage to several thousand vehicles. As a result, deliveries from January to August were down 9.2 per cent to 364,300 (401,200) units. In Central and Eastern Europe, Volkswagen Passenger Cars handed over 176,100 vehicles (177,900; -1 per cent) to customers, of which 103,600 units (108,900; -4.9 per cent) were delivered in Russia.

In the North America region, Volkswagen Passenger Cars grew deliveries in the period to August by 3.3 per cent to 417,200 (404,000) units, of which 282,900 (286,800; -1.3 per cent) models were handed over in the United States. In the South America region, deliveries from January to August declined by 14.6 per cent to 484,300 (567,300) units, of which 363,900 (441,300; -17.5 per cent) vehicles were handed over in Brazil.

In contrast, there was noticeable positive momentum for the brand in the Asia-Pacific region in the period to August, with Volkswagen handing over 1.70-million (1.46) vehicles to customers there, an increase of 16.7 per cent. 1.56-million (1.32; +18.4 per cent) vehicles were delivered in China during the same period. In contrast, deliveries in India declined to 41,400 (46,400; -11 per cent) units.
