Hyundai of Brenham, Texas, was recently awarded LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Council members were impressed with the building's innovative use of recycled building materials, on-site waste and water-management, utilization of alternate-
fuel vehicles and renewable energy, and general sustainability plan. Hyundai of Brenham opened the doors to their new facility in June 2011, with certification achieved in July of 2013. This is the first Hyundai dealership in the U.S. to receive this recognition.
"During the construction of their dealership, Hyundai of Brenham demonstrated their commitment to a sustainable, green business model," said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. "Through their utilization of renewable energy sources, on-site waste management solutions, and their extensive use of recycled materials during construction, this dealership has taken proactive measures towards lowering their environmental impact."
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, is a program that provides third-party verification of green buildings. LEED is focused on sustainability and the impact buildings have on their environment as well as the people who use them every day. Through its various rating systems, the program addresses the entire building lifecycle, including design, construction, operation and maintenance, and recognizes best-in-class building strategies.
"From day one, the focus of our new facility was sustainability," said Gregg Appel, Co-owner and General Manager, Hyundai of Brenham. "Recycled metal and wood were used on both the exterior and interior of the building, our irrigation system is sourced from a state-of-the-art water recycling and collection system, and solar power is utilized to supply much of our facility with electricity. By maintaining a sustainable and eco-friendly business model, we can proudly claim to be the first LEED-certified Hyundai dealership."
"Hyundai of Brenham's recent LEED certification is a great example of how Hyundai dealers take it upon themselves to promote a low-impact, eco-friendly business model," said Dave Zuchowski, Executive Vice-President of National Sales. "Sustainability is a company-wide commitment by Hyundai, and this achievement by Hyundai of Brenham serves as a prime example for future Hyundai dealerships."
