Yamaha WR45F wins Red Dot Design award

Yamaha WR450F enduro bike has been awarded the prestigious Red Dot Product Design Award for 2013. This is the second year running that Yamaha has scooped this prestigious award, with the TMAX having won it in 2012.

Organised by Germany's Design Zentrum
Nordrhein Westfalen, the Red Dot competition has been running since 1955. Each year a panel of independent experts evaluate products from a wide variety of industries for their aesthetic form, innovation and ground breaking design.

"Red Dot celebrates exceptional design from around the globe and in turn celebrates the achievements of designers who use great skill throughout their work," explained Jury Member and handmade shoe designer, Jimmy Choo.

For 2013 around 1,800 companies from 54 countries submitted a total of 4,662 products for the 2013 Red Dot Awards and each product was discussed and assessed over several days by an independent panel of 37 design professionals drawn from 24 nations.

"The Red Dot is a very prestigious design award in Europe and we are very happy to have won it," said Takane Mitomi, WR450F Chief Designer, GK Dynamics Inc. "For an off-road competition model like the WR450F, functionality is the first priority and then accentuating the best aspects of that functionality is the role of the design."

"In the case of this model, its uncompromising pursuit of handling performance and fitting a large engine into a compact body make the degree of difficulty for the designer quite high and it was a big challenge bringing thedesign together. I feel that winning the Red Dot award serves as recognition of the efforts we made to realise the ideals of the entire development team."

In addition to the Red Dot Award for the latest WR450F, Yamaha also scooped 'Honourable Mentions' for the Xenter 125 scooter and the FJR1300A Sport Tourer.
