Skoda retailers have done it again, ending 2012 with a record total for new car registrations in the UK. It's the fourth year in a row Skoda has beaten its previous best and the new benchmark is 53,602 - up 19 per cent from 45,061 in 2011.
Pushing through the magic 50,000 barrier
in the UK for the first time in its history has given Skoda a record market share of 2.6 per cent. Last year that figure stood at 2.3 per cent.
Every vehicle in Skoda's seven-car model range played its part in the success. Highlights included the launch of Rapid in November and the arrival of the award-winning Skoda Citigo, which contributed more than 4,000 sales since it hit showrooms in June.
Demand for the Fabia and Roomster continued to be strong, with sales of 16,630 (+10 per cent) and 2,736 (+43 per cent) respectively. Sales of Octavia remained strong with 16,892 cars finding homes.
Both Hatch and Estate variants of the Superb continued to perform well, each ending 2012 with higher totals than 2011; 2,662 (+39 per cent) and 3,050 (+21 per cent) respectively.
Since its launch in 2009 the highly acclaimed Yeti has continued to go from strength to strength. Registrations in 2012 were up 26 per cent on 2011 (7,334 cars).
Skoda UK is also celebrating a record year in the fleet sector, with registrations of 23,524, up from 21,899 in 2011 (+7.4 per cent) and a record market share of 2.3 per cent.
Official sales of Skoda replacement parts and accessories exceeded £39-million in 2012; another record total.
