The Sona Group announced the commencement of the pilot project of their Global Scholar Programme. The Global Scholar Programme is a part of the new initiatives of the company to bridge the gap between industry and academia by offering internship opportunities to
candidates; and to enable them to get the real feel of working in a multinational set up before they already get on the job. The project was started with two students from the Hamburg School of Business Administration, Germany, for two months at Sona Koyo Steering Systems Ltd. in India.
This project is the brainchild of Sunjay Kapur, MD & Vice-Chairman, Sona Koyo Steering Systems Ltd. who is promoting this initiative personally. Sunjay Kapur himself is currently pursuing the Owner President Management program at Harvard Business School. He is very passionate in mentoring the next generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs.
"We recognise the need for training and mentoring the next line of leaders of tomorrow. Given our existing relationship with Germany though our entity Sona BLW Prazisionsschmiede GmBH, we saw two promising students whom we met in Germany and that's when this idea came up to harness this as an opportunity for creating a leadership programme; Hence the Global Scholar Programme. With a pilot batch with our international students we were testing waters. We are now going to roll this out in a more phased manner for students from India and across the world on a yearly basis," said Sunjay Kapur.
For a start, Sona will be inducting up to 5 global scholars in a year into the programme and contribute to international learning. The next leg of the programme is expected to be launched in 2013.
