Renault engines to power MRF Challenge

Highlighting its long association with Motor Racing, Renault India Pvt. Ltd. unveiled the Renault team car for the MRF Challenge during a special event in Greater Noida. The two Renault team cars will be driven by two young and extremely talented drivers Jon Lancaster
and Alice Powell.

For this year's MRF Challenge, Renault will be the official engine supplier for the championship and all 20 cars starting on the grid will be powered by the Renault Sport supplied 2-litre engines churning out 210 ps of maximum power.

Renault's long association with motor racing has seen the company design and produce some of the most powerful and technically advanced Formula One engines since the 1970s. These include the Renault V6 Turbo engine used in the 1970s and 80s, renowned as one of the most powerful ever to hit the track, the Renault V10, which won seven back-to-back titles in the 90s and the Renault V8, which has won three constructors' titles to date. Renault stands out as one of Formula One's most competitive engine suppliers, with its ability to rival leading specialists on the racetrack allowing the company to notch up the unmatched record of an average one title every three seasons over the past 35 years.

This expertise will be in evidence at the MRF Challenge this year where participants will be provided with engines designed and built by Renault Sport in France. These 16-valve, 4-cylinder, 1,998 cc F4R832 engines can produce a maximum power of 210 bhp at 6,500 rpm and maximum torque of 220 nm @ 5,500 rpm. The MRF Challenge will see teams competing for the top spot from October 26, 2012 to February 10, 2013 in Delhi and Chennai in 10 races.

The unveil event also included an exclusive performance by Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber who treated enthusiasts to an scintillating drive of the Renault Pulse and Scala around a specially designed track. Winners of the 'Ticket to Formula 1' contest as well as some members of the media got a chance to experience firsthand the excitement of motor racing as Webber took them on a 'hot lap' of the track, highlighting the brilliant handling dynamics of the Pulse and Scala.

Both the Scala and Pulse, along with the Fluence and Duster are powered by the Renault's K9K engine, which uses technology derived from the race proven RS27 F1 engine and fine-tuned for everyday use in regular production cars. The K9K is acclaimed for its responsiveness, reliability and fuel efficiency.

On the F1 circuit this year four teams, including the last year's Championship winning Red Bull Racing, are powered by the Renault RS27 engine and to date Renault has won 10 constructors' and nine drivers' titles.
