The Kia Rio was named as Best Supermini in the Association of Scottish Motoring Writer's Car of the Year Awards at a glittering ceremony in Glasgow.
Beating off stiff competition from Audi's A1 and Peugeot's 208 models the Rio was commended for delivering
a market-best package of style and value in the most highly contested segment of the new car market.
ASMW President John Murdoch and his colleagues picked out the Rio for its excellent passenger comfort and space, its high quality interior, reliability, low ownership cost and of course Kia's industry-leading seven year warranty, saying that gave buyers the best all-round car in the ultra-competitive small car market.
Accepting the award Stephen Kits, Kia's Communications Director said, "This part of the market is white-hot with excellent products and fantastic bargains, so to win this accolade is a tremendous honour for Kia and a remarkable victory for Rio over such excellent rivals in the segment."
The Kia Rio range comes with a choice of four engines and two body-styles including the world's first non-electric or hybrid car to deliver CO2 emissions of just 85 g/km. And Rio has just shown how economic it can be by becoming the first vehicle in the annual economy-test, the MPG marathon, to break the 100 mpg barrier.
