Brazilian Government Awards large orders for more than 2,100 Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Vans

Daimler's subsidiary Mercedes-Benz do Brasil has won several tenders of the Brazilian government for a total of over 2,100 vehicles. The large-scale orders call for delivery of more than 1,700 Atego trucks, and 400 Sprinter of Mercedes-Benz. Among the decisive criteria for
winning the tenders are superior quality, a broad usage profile and low total cost ownership (TCO).

"Once again, we are showing that we are correctly positioned in Latin America with our broad commercial vehicle portfolio," emphasizes Andreas Renschler, the Daimler Board of Management member responsible for Daimler Trucks and Daimler Buses.

"With an expected volume of over 200,000 vehicles sold in the long run, the Brazilian market will take the position as the fourth largest market for medium- and heavy-duty trucks in the world," Andreas Renschler underlines.

Jurgen Ziegler, President of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil and CEO for Latin America, said, "We are happy that the Brazilian government continues to place trust in our Mercedes-Benz products. Our state-of-the-art technology, convincing quality, and low total cost ownership are attractive purchasing arguments for our customers."

The 2,100 Mercedes-Benz vehicles will be deployed in various areas. More than 1,700 Atego trucks are intended for the Brazilian Ministry of Defence, along with 400 Sprinters that will be used as ambulance vehicles for the Ministry of Health in the 'Servico de Atendimento Movel de Urgencia' program. Mercedes-Benz do Brasil has already begun the delivery of the vehicles and is expected to complete the government fleet by 2013.
