50 supercars, worth over £5-million, set off from the London Hilton Park Lane on Wednesday, September 5, to begin their epic 2000-mile journey for the first ever Cannonball 2000, raising money for Dreams Come True children's charity.
The race was started by champion
boxer Ricky Hatton waving his chequered flag alongside a bevvy of glamour girls. Brand Hatton also sponsored the event. Setting off in grid formation the 50 supercars left London Park Lane bound for the south coast, before taking a ferry to St. Malo and heading for Barcelona. The adrenalin-filled journey will take the supercars across five European cities including London, Barcelona, Monte Carlo, Milan and finally Paris whilst raising funds for children's charity Dreams Come True.
Cannonball 2000 celebrity associates include twice world champion boxer Ricky Hatton who is supporting the event with his Brand Hatton products and taking part in the Cannonball are ITV's Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher and Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas along with his friend actor Philip Olivier.
The inaugural Cannonball 2000, already the fastest growing motor-lifestyle event in the UK, has attracted an impressive line up of vehicle entries. With entries ranging from the rare to the exotic, such as a DeLorean DMC-12 - as film fans will recognise from the Back to the Future films – and a Lamborghini Gallardo LP570 Performante, the Cannonball 2000 is guaranteed to turn heads on its route across Europe this week.
Prestige British models such as the Bentley Speed, Bentley GTC convertible and a number of Aston Martin's, including a 1999 DB7 Vantage Volante (convertible) and several DB9 models, join more traditional entries including a Range Rover Sport, Jaguar XK and a large number of BMWs and Porsche entries. Ferrari fans will be pleased to see a number of entries from the iconic marque including a California, 430 and 360 Modena, while the Japanese petrol heads are represented by Nissan Skyline and 350Z GT Roadster.
Cannonball 2000 Founder & Entrepreneur commented, "Cannonball 2000 is for everyone who possesses a down-to-earth, fun loving attitude and wants to enjoy themselves. This is a unique event which transcends all barriers of gender, race, religion or financial status."
"Cannonball 2000 is a chance to be a part of a journey like no other. From the official London Launch Party, to the grand finale in Paris, the event is a high-octane experience in the most luxurious and hedonistic surroundings. Cannonballers will experience five days of the most amazing scenery, luxury hotels, and VIP access to top nightclubs and will be rubbing shoulders with celebrities and other like-minded people."
