A fighting spirit was in the air at Donington this weekend where the fifth leg of the FIA European Truck Racing Championships took place. Once again, the Renault Trucks MKR-Technology team scored some valuable points by gaining three podium places -
a second and two thirds. Renault Trucks UK, the event's main sponsor, took advantage of the weekend to offer its 4,000 guests a number of convivial and welcoming attractions around its stands.
The first day of racing at Donington stood out with a 3rd place for Adam Lacko in the first race and a spectacular pileup which forced him to abandon the second. During this race, Markus Bosiger - who had finished 5th in the first - was also the victim of an aggressive overtake resulting in him having to withdraw as well. Meanwhile, Markus Ostreich had his share of bad luck on the Saturday following a mechanical problem, which prevented him from taking part in the second race. Between the two days, the technical teams therefore had an herculean task on their hands to repair the trucks that were damaged on day one. As their expertise and rapid working, all of them were ready to return to the track for the Sunday races.
Markus Ostreich took advantage of this opportunity to have his revenge by giving a splendid performance and finishing 2nd in the first race on Sunday. During the second race of the day, which took place in driving rain, Markus Ostreich was back on the podium again on the third step. In the overall team rankings, the Renault Trucks MKR-Technology team is still the front runner with 481 points and Markus Ostreich is 3rd in the individual rankings with 163 points, followed by his two teammates.
For this fifth leg of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship, Renault Trucks wanted to share its passion for trucks and racing with everyone.
"The Donington event is a unique opportunity to focus our customers, dealers, drivers and their families on our brand and its values," said Marc Martinez, Managing Director of Renault Trucks UK. The Renault Trucks stand, imposing both in its size and in the number of visitors it attracted, had very much a sporting village feel about it. With its vehicles on display and various attractions, Renault Trucks was able to make this weekend a moment of real fun and entertainment for people of all ages.
The entire Renault Trucks range was displayed on its main stand: from the Master all the way through to the Kerax and the Magnum, where the manufacturer's 4,000 guests were able to admire and climb aboard over 11 vehicles. The new used vehicle offering, 'Premium Selection' and the contract hire and truck rental solutions offered by BRS, Renault Trucks' partner in the UK, were also given pride of place. A high note of the show was the Renault Premium Long Distance, boasting the colours of the Union Jack, which served as the Pace truck for each race.
As far as attractions were concerned, the spectators were given a real treat - live entertainers, racing simulators, face painters, clowns, jugglers and other acts delighted young and old alike throughout the weekend. A preview of what truck racing enthusiasts can look forward to at the Nurburgring on July 14-15 for the unmissable weekend of the season!
