The Volkswagen Amarok has pulled-off a top motoring accolade at the Auto Express New Car Awards 2012, as the winner of its inaugural 'Best Pick-Up' award.
Most impressively, the Amarok double cab beat key rivals such as the new Ford Ranger and Toyota
Hilux, with Auto Express commenting, "Since its launch last year it has redefined what buyers can expect from a hard-working pick-up truck."
The Amarok was also praised for its performance and pulling power - "The punchy 2.0-litre BiTDI engine produces 400 nm of torque, making it perfect for carrying or towing heavy loads."
"By bringing the kind of cabin quality usually reserved for its passenger cars to a practical commercial vehicle, Volkswagen has raised the bar in the sector," added Steve Fowler, the Editor-in-Chief of Auto Express Magazine.
Alex Smith, Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles collected the award and said, "The other good news for the Amarok is that we are launching an automatic transmission model this summer, and with production for Europe moving to our factory in Germany, there will be more vehicles for the UK and shorter waiting times."
