Porsche Talent Team Germany player Annika Beck wins girls’ singles title at French Open

What a triumph for Annika Beck - the player belonging to the Porsche Talent Team Germany won the girls’ singles title at the French Open in Paris to celebrate the biggest success of her still young career. Playing in the final of the Grand Slam tournament, the
18-year-old defeated Slovakian Anna Schmiedlova after three hard-fought sets 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.


The final on the clay at Roland Garros hung in the balance and was exciting from the very first serve right up to the match point. After starting her first Grand Slam final in convincing fashion, the German suddenly showed nerves despite being ahead. She dropped serve three times in a row to hand her opponent the first set. In the second, the German led 3-0 and 4-1 before she once again lost her way to be pegged back to 5-5. But then in the critical stage of the match, she showed nerves of steel to win her serve and then break her opponent’s to close out the set 7-5. Her nervousness was now a thing of the past. In the third, Annika Beck again found the convincing form she had displayed throughout the tournament to win the set and the title despite two losses of serve.

“She played a fantastic tournament and certainly deserved the win. It’ll give her a lot of confidence for the future,” said German national coach Barbara Rittner. The captain of the Porsche Team Germany Fed Cup team also praised the impressive performances in general of the Porsche Talent Team members in Paris, “It was wonderful to see that there are a few players knocking on the door. We can expect to see a lot of great things from them in the future.”

Alongside the newly-crowned French Open winner, there’s also, in particular, Antonia Lottner and Dinah Pfizenmaier. Aged only 15, Antonia Lottner advanced to the semifinals of the girls’ singles via the qualifying competition. And there’s Dinah Pfizenmaier who qualified for the main draw of the Grand Slam tournament and was only beaten in the second round by Victoria Azarenka (Belarus), the world No. 1.

Within the framework of the Premium Partnership between Porsche AG and the German Tennis Association (DTB), four up-and-coming German youngsters are supported within the Porsche Talent Team Germany. In addition to Annika Beck, Antonia Lottner and Dinah Pfizenmaier, the quartet also includes Carina Witthoft.
