Europe’s fastest racing circuit, Rockingham, is throwing down the gauntlet in the name of BEN, the automotive industry charity.
The Northamptonshire race venue and testing facility is challenging the UK motor industry to sign up to the BEN 24 hour cycle
challenge on Friday, March 16 to raise money for the benevolent fund. Up to ten teams will tackle Rockingham’s 1.94 mile International Super Sportscar Circuit, which incorporates the start/finish straight of the famous banked Oval as well as the infamous Turn 1.
The circuit has supported cycling events in the past, but this is the biggest two-wheel challenge to date. Chief Executive of Rockingham, Charlotte Orton said, “We’re delighted to host this marathon and it’s a great opportunity for car manufacturers, dealer groups and OEMs to join us in supporting a charity that’s close to all our hearts.”
Starting at 7 AM, teams of four riders will take it in turns to complete as many laps of the Rockingham circuit as possible, with each member completing six of the 24-hours. However, each team can decide how they want to tackle the challenge, from six stints of an hour each through to one six-hour slog.
BEN exists to provide care, support and advice to those in the motor industry who need help in times of hardship or distress. Kelly Neal, BEN’s Events Manager said, “This promises to be a fantastic team building event, it’s not all about speed, it’s about strategy, planning your shifts and making sure you don’t exhaust yourself on the first stint. After visiting Rockingham we realise what a challenge it’s going to be.”
