Enhanced Berlingo & Dispatch refresh Citroen’s 2012 LCV range

Citroen’s Berlingo and Dispatch LCV models have been refreshed for 2012 with smart new styling, additional equipment and improved efficiency. The upgrades bring the models in line with the rest of Citroen’s award-winning commercial vehicle range, which includes the
stylish and efficient Nemo and the versatile and practical Relay.

Berlingo
The first van of its kind when launched in 1996, the original Berlingo combined good looks and functionality in an integrated body style. The current Berlingo, launched in 2008, has now gained further improvements for 2012. The new model boasts a more robust and expressive design, with additional functionality for even more advantage over its rivals.

Among the styling updates, the new Berlingo gains a wider, more defined grille, a new chevron badge rising up to the headlights and a new headlight arrangement. The indicators, for example, are now to the side of the main light units and are underlined by blue segments for an even stronger personality. The lower part of the grille can be fitted with optional static cornering lights integrated with the fog lights. The wider air intake on the front bumper gives the vehicle a more powerful stance on the road and the door mirrors gain a more aerodynamic design to help reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

At the rear, the new Berlingo displays the updated Citroen brand identity. Inside, the existing upholstery has been replaced by Citroen’s new ‘Gazyban’ grey trim for increased comfort and a more modern look.

In addition to its attractive styling, the new Berlingo remains robust, spacious and immensely practical. With a maximum load capacity of 4.1 m3, sliding side doors and 60/40 rear doors opening to 180°, the new Berlingo is able to carry two euro pallets easily and safely. For even greater versatility, a 2-seater Extenso multi-function folding passenger seat is standard on LX and Enterprise models.

For even greater safety on the road, the new Berlingo is available with grip control to increase traction, incorporating hill-start assist. HDi and e-HDi versions can now be specified with a fixed speed limiter enabling the operator to set a permanent maximum speed from a choice of four available limits.

The new Berlingo is offered with one petrol and four diesel powertrains. With improved efficiency and environmental performance, the HDi 75 now emits 133 g/km of CO2 - down from 136 g/km - thanks to changes including the new aerodynamic upgrades. The HDi 90 now emits 138 g/km - down from 140 g/km.

The e-HDi 90 Airdream EGS6, which features e-HDi micro-hybrid technology with stop & start and a six-speed automated manual gearbox, delivers even lower CO2 emissions of just 123 g/km. On top of the economic and environmental benefits, this powertrain provides the benefits of two-pedal driving. To select auto, neutral, reverse or manual, the driver uses a fascia-mounted dial. There are then steering-mounted paddles for use in the manual mode.

Dispatch
Fitting business needs perfectly, the latest Citroen Dispatch is available in two lengths, two heights and combines expansive load space with high standards of on board comfort. The driving position is closer to that of an MPV than a traditional LCV. Ergonomic, efficient and easy to use day to day, the new Dispatch features capacity of up to 7m3, a load sill height as low as 49 cm - thanks to optional pneumatic rear suspension - wide sliding side doors for loading pallets and rear doors that open to 180°.

Like Berlingo, the Dispatch gains a new front end featuring a wide chromed grille with a new chevron badge that extends up to the headlights. The model also reflects a shift upmarket in terms of equipment. Enhancing safety and convenience, the new Dispatch is available with hill-start assist and the same fixed speed limiter functionality as Berlingo. For enhanced peace of mind, grip control is available for the first time, with the driver choosing one of four modes - normal, all-terrain, snow or sand. This advanced anti-skid option optimises traction and adapts to all driving conditions. An optional tyre pressure monitor is also introduced.

Special efforts were made to reduce the model’s CO2 emissions with the addition of aerodynamic panels underneath the body and a ‘volt control’ function to optimise battery charge management by the alternator. This has seen Dispatch emissions fall to 177 g/km from 182 g/km for models powered by the HDi 90 engine and from 179 g/km to 168 g/km with the HDi 125.

Final UK specification and pricing details for the new Berlingo and Dispatch will be confirmed closer to the April 2, 2012 ‘on sale’ date.
