Driving lessons from Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy believes in going the extra mile to ensure students prepare for the road ahead as safe and responsible drivers. This winter, the Driving Academy is in partnership with Pirelli to equip the fleet of Mercedes-Benz A-Class
cars with Pirelli Cold Weather tyres to prevent the uncertainty of wintery roads causing chilling moments while on a driving lesson.

This move is geared towards keeping new drivers safe, whilst raising awareness of the issues faced when the cold snap bites, which may lead to a greater risk of unwelcome insurance claims and even worse, injury, in the ice and snow.

Robert East, National Operations and Development Manager, Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy commented, “It is important for learner drivers to gain confidence behind the wheel during a structured and progressive learning process. With Cold Weather Tyres our students are able to do just that, whatever the temperature outside. The benefits of these tyres can help every driver, no matter how experienced they are, which is why we have worked with Pirelli to make sure our students are safe and aware of the advantages the tyres offer for when they have passed their test and are driving their own cars in the cold winter months."

With the impending cold, wet, snowy and icy weather, Pirelli is urging drivers to act now and prepare their cars before the arrival of winter weather. According to Pirelli UK's MD,  Dominic Sandivasci, the correct tyre choice is vital to staying safe in the cold weather conditions. “Cold weather tyres offer drivers extra grip in winter conditions,” he explains. "Thanks to the tread pattern design and the ability of the compound to remain flexible at low temperatures, the grip in cold weather and on snow is significantly improved."

“When winter weather embraces the UK, we are often left wondering why everything comes to a standstill, but it’s mainly down to a lack of preparation. If we all fitted cold weather tyres during the winter months, it’s fair to say that we may not find driving in cold weather conditions, or snow and ice, quite so daunting.”

This partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Pirelli will give many drivers the knowledge they need to drive more safely in adverse winter weather conditions.

Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy offers the opportunity to further reduce the uncertainty and the fear of driving in cold weather through the Winter Driving Course that takes place in the controlled environment of Mercedes-Benz World’s Handling Circuits and advanced skid pan. This is available to all drivers regardless of experience.
