The prestigious Basque chef, Juan Mari Arzak, will be in-charge, through his catering company Arzak-Bokado, of not only satisfying Formula 1’s most exquisite palates but also feeding team members throughout the 20 Grands Prix this season.
The team of chefs
that make up Arzak-Bokado will travel with the squad and will set up its operational headquarters in the new motorhome during European events, whereas at overseas races they will use the facilities offered by each circuit to maintain the same quality of service.
The particular logistics that are entailed with travelling around the world won’t affect the use of fresh, good quality, national products that characterize the extraordinary and renowned Spanish cuisine, with the company also seeking aid from chefs and suppliers in each country that is visited.
High standard cuisine which is ready to respond to the different needs of team members and exclusive guests, whilst also adapting to the characteristic timetables and demands that Formula 1 presents around the globe.
Besides the sporting targets that HRT F1 Team has set itself, the team takes another step in its objective of becoming a reference and platform through which to improve recognition and international prestige, thanks as well to synergies with renowned partners.
With three Michelin stars, Juan Mari Arzak is one of the most recognized chefs in the world and an international ambassador of Spain, having also been distinguished with the highest marks in international gastronomic guides. It is the first time that a chef of this category is in charge of a Formula 1 team’s nutrition.
The Basque group, Arzak-Bokado, combines the creativity and professional talent of the chef from San Sebastian with the dynamism and efficiency of the catering company Bokado, which has specialized in festive and gastronomic services in Spain and France for 15 years and been responsible for numerous culinary events in New York, Tokyo and Shanghai. Its promoters Jesús and Mikel Santamaría and José María Pikabea own prestigious establishments such as the restaurants Bokado-Museo del Traje in Madrid, Aquarium-Bokado and Bokado-San Temo in San Sebastian, catering services at the Las Ventas bullring and hospitality services at Illumbe in San Sebastian and at VIP boxes for Real Sociedad, amongst other activities.
Juan Mari Arzak, Chef said, “For any Basque it is an honour to be able to take part in a project of this international magnitude, but what really is incredible for me is to have the responsibility of promoting Spanish cuisine alongside a fantastic group of people who made this project possible. Spanish cuisine is an international reference, which not only promotes our culture but, through HRT F1 Team, shows one of the biggest tourist attractions that our country has: our gastronomy. It is a real challenge to compete from the stove with my Arzak-Bokado team, feeling the speed of a Formula 1 team like ours, without ever losing the quality of our dishes. It will be an exciting challenge."
Jesus Mari Santamaria, Product Development Director of Catering Bokado said, “The logistical challenge that we have with HRT F1 Team made us realise this was a huge opportunity to make our Basque gastronomy known and to count with many Spanish chefs around the world. Making them a part of this project by helping us to have the best fresh products in order to present the best service possible to our clients, guests and team. Our main objective will always be to promote our country as a platform for exportation for the benefit of all our collaborators."
Oscar Leyva, Business Director of HRT F1 Team, said, “There are deals that you have to justify and others where the name says it all, and this is one of them. Having Arzak-Bokado in charge of the team’s kitchen at Grands Prix is something extraordinary and seeing the enthusiasm with which they are taking on this challenge makes us proud and, at the same time, reaffirms that we are doing things right and that the effort we have put in these last few months is giving its rewards."
