Renault announces UK pricing and specification for new Twingo

Renault has confirmed UK pricing and specification for its New Twingo, which launches in Feburary 2012, costing £10,350 on-the-road in Dynamique 1.2 16V 75 guise.

Boasting improved styling, with a cheekier front end and the new Renault design
identity, plus revised bumper, tailgate and new rear lights, the French brand’s latest model is sure to continue the characterful city car’s enduring success.

To make the car even more appealing, all New Twingos are eligible for the Renault 4+ programme worth £900, which launches on February 1, 2012. The tempting package offers all retail customers a comprehensive four-year/100,000 mile warranty, free routine servicing for four years/48,000 miles, four-years roadside cover and up to four years finance (lease or PCP, subject to status).

Like the first-generation Twingo, the newcomer features an expressive, appealing front end and its dynamic, playful character is underlined by its fog lights and round sidelights which are now positioned next to the grille. The ‘eyelids’ of the headlights also contribute to new Twingo’s distinctive looks.

At its world debut in Frankfurt last year, Renault’s Senior Vice-President, Corporate Design, Laurens van den Acker said, “We have heightened New Twingo’s sensuous styling and seductive appeal, marking a return to Twingo’s original personality. We have also given the front end the brand’s new design identity which will be seen on all our new models.”

The new Twingo is now available in warm, original new colours called Fuchsia and Bermuda Blue – to add to the seven existing body colours – which bring a touch of light-hearted fun that’s characteristic of city cars.

At the rear, there are new lights in addition to the main cluster. Located on the tailgate, they enhance New Twingo's lines and echo the front end, bringing extra shape and punch to the car. With a rounder rear bumper and a more curved form for the lower part of the tailgate, the lines are softer. There are eight different alloy wheel options and the option of an electrically-operated fabric sunroof (available in April).

Inside, Twingo’s bubbly side is enhanced through the harmony of colour and material. The ‘Luxe Carbon’ seats feature new patterns, with edging picked out in stylish red stitching. Unique in its class, New Twingo also comes with cruise control and a speed limiter as standard. Ideal around town and especially in speed camera-monitored roadworks, the speed limiter will not allow the car to exceed a pre-selected speed, whilst on a longer run, cruise control will maintain a selected speed. Therefore, New Twingo is as at home on the motorway as it is in the city.

New Twingo sees Renault introduce an exciting brand new collection of five roof decals. Each one is factory fitted and expresses a bold, attractive character, with the contrasting motifs offering different visual themes.

Customers can also choose different colours for the door mirrors and tips of the protective side mouldings, with colours which contrast with the main body colour. Whether ‘radical’ or ‘graphic’, the end result will not only be entirely personal but also guaranteed to be elegant.

In the UK, New Twingo is powered by the 1.2 16 V 75 engine, boasting 55.4 mpg in the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 119 g/km resulting in nil road fund licence for the first year (£30 from year two).

On top of its high level of core equipment, Renault’s baby is available with a wide range of options. Among them are climate control, electric panoramic sunroof (with an electrically operated fabric version available from April), two option packs and long list of exterior customisation accessories such as Renaultsport rear spoiler, and a series of decals.

The audio system in new Twingo is also new and improved with bluetooth functionality, together with audio streaming with USB connectivity as standard (from March). This makes it easy to play digital music and the audio system can also be used as a docking station for the latest-generation iPhone and iPod Touch.

An iPod-compatible radio is also available as an accessory for £235. This special audio system equally enables the use of GPS navigation through an app developed by Renault, which can also analyse the driver’s eco-performance in real time. By providing tips to keep fuel consumption down, the system helps save up to 10 per cent fuel in a practical way.

New Twingo’s design combines compact exterior dimensions with an impressively spacious interior. The very roomy city car provides 22 centimetres of kneeroom, which puts it among the segment's very best.

Meanwhile, its reputation has always been sealed through its high degree of versatility, principally as a result of its separate, independently sliding, 50/50-split rear seats. Its boot capacity can therefore, when required, extend from 230 to 959 dm3, while the numerous cubbies and ingenious solutions available as options combine to make it the perfect partner both for shopping runs and for trips to the country.

Thanks to its platform which is based on that of Clio, New Twingo retains its best-in-class status with regard to handling and ride comfort. Meanwhile, its compact dimensions and nimble handling are ideal for slicing through city traffic, yet it is just as much in its element out of town, too.

Since its launch, Twingo has enjoyed widely acclaimed reliability and a high level of customer satisfaction, as confirmed by a long list of studies and surveys. Germany's ADAC, for example, considers Twingo’s reliability to have ranged from ‘good’ to ‘excellent’ for several years. Meanwhile, the French magazine L’Automobile Magazine put it first in its class for the second consecutive year in its overall quality ranking published in February 2011. The magazine also stressed that “with Twingo, Renault has demonstrated its ability to propel one of its cars to the top level of customer satisfaction”.

New Twingo is on sale in the UK now.
