Ever thought that flying a paper plane in college could bring you anything more than the wrath of a teacher or the annoyed looks of your folks?
Well, now it can! Red Bull brings you a chance to win some fame and a trip to Austria by becoming the National Paper Plane
Champion courtesy Red Bull Paper Wings.
Red Bull Paper Wings is a worldwide paper plane designing and flying contest, which is now in its third edition to India this year. The contest aims at engaging students to think of innovative ways of folding paper and designing an aerodynamically capable plane. The hobby engineers have the challenge of using an A4 sheet of paper of 100 gsm density, a pair of scissors and some glue at their disposal.
The contest will be held in Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Chennai and Hyderabad between February with a national final in first week of March. Participants will be judged across three categories - 'Longest Distance', 'Maximum Flight Time' and 'Aerobatic Flight'. The best 3 participants under each of the three categories from the seven cities will seal a spot at the National finals.
Longest Distance: Winner of this category will be the plane that flies the longest distance between the lift-off and the landing point within the official Air Space.
Longest Airtime: Winner of this category will be the plane that manages to stay in the air the longest. Results will be counted in tenth of seconds.
Aerobatics: Winner of this category will be judged on the creativity and style - that is what it takes to make a paper plane fly artistically through the air.
The ultimate acrobatic battle between 63 participants will be for the top position in the three categories. The three national winners will compete at the 2012 World Finals at Hangar-7, Salzburg, Austria in the month of May.
