Dr. E. Sreedharan hands over charge as MD, DMRC to Mangu Singh on 31st December 2011.
The 2nd Managing Director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Mangu Singh born in Bijnor (Uttar Pradesh) on December 15, 1955. He received his early education from his native place and later
graduated in civil engineering from University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee) in 1979 with an outstanding academic performance. Thereafter, he got into the elite Indian Railways Services of Engineers (IRSE) through the 1981 Examination conducted by the UPSC. He then worked in the Indian Railways in various capacities including Deputy Chief Engineer, Kolkata Metro Railway (1989-1996).
Singh joined Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in 1997 in the capacity of Chief Engineer/Chief Project Manager and moved upwards to Executive Director and then Director (Works).
He has contributed greatly in the project implementation of Kolkata Metro and has been responsible for bringing revolutionary changes in the execution of large Metro engineering projects (civil) within tight deadlines and budget. Singh has vast experience and expertise in construction of underground structures in urban environment and is perhaps the most experienced engineer in this field in the country.
Besides, Singh is also a recipient of various prestigious awards and honours like the National Award (Railway Week Award 1996) for his contribution in completing the Kolkata Metro Rail Project, distinguished Alumni Award - Global Meet IIT (Roorkee) 2007 etc.
In addition, he has successfully headed the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Projects of Delhi Metro, the only such successful project in the Railway Transportation sector in the world. He has been instrumental in preparing the Master Plan and Detailed Project Reports for Metro system in other cities of the country like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Kochi, Jaipur, Ludhiana and Ahmedabad.
His experience includes Rail based transportation projects, its planning & execution, procurement of works and services for mega projects on design and built contracts basis, handling multilateral funding agencies, development of bid documents for Metro projects on PPP basis, management of concession contracts and CDM projects.
